the following resolution was passed:-

"The Executive and Legislative Councils of

Hongkong desire to record their heartfelt

sympathy with the relatives and friends of all those who perished, or suffered injury, in the catastrophe occasioned by the col-

-lapse and burning of the matsheds at the

Happy Valley on the 26th. instant".

5. The accident occurred on the 2nd. day of the Race Meeting just after the luncheon hour. The meeting which was to have comprised 3 full days racing and an off day

was abandoned.

7. The Naval and Military Authorities with others rendered very valuable assistance at the time of the collapse in rescuing persons imprisoned in the ruins, and the Tung Tab Hospital Authorities were of the greatest help in collecting and burying the remains of those who perished. These have been suitably thanked, and letters of condolence have been sent to the representatives of the Portuguese and

Japanese communities.
